Procrastination

Everyone procrastinates sometimes, but 20 percent of people chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions.

When you procrastinate two individuals part of your brain are battling each other the prefrontal cortex, this area of the brain is for brain functions such as attention, control, planning, etc., it allows you to integrate information and make decisions; here is where serious things born and it supposed to act as a filter for distracting stimulations; the other part of the brain is the limbic system which is directly connected to your pleasure center, so when you’re thinking about watching tv, playing video games or taking a nap instead of getting things done, he’s the mastermind behind.

Your prefrontal cortex knows the benefits of getting things done, but the truth is the limbic system is the most dominant portion of the brain and it seems to be always on automatic; so most of the time he wins against the prefrontal cortex.

What can’t we do to stop procrastination?.

The limbic system gets more powerful whenever temptation of not being productive becomes more tangible. I cannot tell you all the practical solutions for all different forms of procrastinations because everybody temptations are different, but here are a few.

Planning: A bit of planning can certainly help you to achieve what you have to do, too much of that may have the opposite effect.

Step by Step: Subconsciously we find the work too overwhelming for us sometimes, so break it down into little parts, then focus on one part at the time. This will also help you to do not blow task away. “How soon ‘not now’ becomes ‘never’.”

Deadlines: Often we get the impression that we have time and keep pushing everything back, until it’s too late, create a timeline with specific deadlines for each task.

A Break: Give yourself a break on your productivity, just don’t be too generous while you still have things to do.

Eliminate your procrastination temptations: It easy to procrastinate when we have all does temptations waving in our faces; get rid of the distractions around you, turn off the tv, the radio, if you are working on your computer turn off your email notification sound, and if you really can’t stop getting online for checking email, social media, watching videos, surfing blogs and whatever you do online, turn off your internet until you finish your work, this is a little too drastic because we must be conscious of our actions; here is a fact of the prefrontal cortex, turns out that is the part of the brain that really separates humans from animals, so you better pull yourself together and get things done!.

Stop thinking and start doing.
