Lady Godiva

One of my favorite paintings is one of Lady Godiva, but until five years ago I didn’t know the legend behind.

On 1043 in Coventry, England, Lord Leofric was imposing huge taxes, his wife Lady Godiva took pity on the people of Coventry and appealed to her husband to abolish the taxes; so he decided to honor her request if she would ride naked through the streets of the town, she took his word, she made a proclamation that all persons should stay indoors and shut their windows, she didn’t want anybody looking, so she rode and the only thing that was covering her was her long hair.

Peeping Tom, was the only one who disobeyed and ended up blinded, at the end Lord Leofric abolished the taxes.
